日課なんかやっていて何になるんだろうと思う。でも、毎日やることがないのも耐えられない。

昨日、一人の作家の作品だけを展示する展覧会に行った。作品自体はそこまで優れていると思わなかった。でも、その作家は世界的に有名な人で、作品もポップで、バカバカしさがあって、熱量が高かった。この展覧会に来る人はきっと満足して帰るはずだ、と思った。

僕も満足した。

作品そのものが独立して優れている、ということと、その絵が売れたり、人気がある、ということは関係がないだろう。

先日バナナの叩き売りの映像を見た。そこのコメント欄で、「これはバナナを高く売るのが目的ではなくて、客に気持ちよく買ってもらう芸だ」と書いてあった。「気持ちよく」売り買いが行われることを目指す世界だってある。これはなかなかいい。これこそが経済活動だ、と断言してしまったっていいよね。

お客さんに気持ちよくなってもらうために重要なのは、バナナの美味しさじゃない。売り手が小気味好いグルーヴ感を作り出す、という部分が大事なのだろう。そして、そのグルーヴがバナナを食べるときまで続いていたら、もはやそれは「美味しさ」の一部として認知されるだろうと思う。

自分の作品が未熟だと思っても、とにかくそれを人に見せるために、ワクワクするようなグルーヴがあるのがいいなぁ、と思った。

僕は、何も買わずに展覧会を出た。でも、700円で、なかなかいい展覧会だったな、と思った。

I keep posting an article everyday here, but I don't know what the point of having this kind of routine is. But I also can't stand not having any routine to do every day.

Yesterday, I went to an exhibition dedicated to some artist's works. I didn't think the work itself was that great. But the artist was world-famous, and his works had this pop, silly atmosphere and high energy. I knew that people who came to this exhibition would leave satisfied.

I was also the one like that.

When the some piece of work sells well or is popular, it doesn't mean that the work itself is independently excellent, I believe.

The other day I saw a video of a guy who sells bananas by telling jokes dramatically and rhythmically (it's one of the old Japanese street performances that had developed around 100 years ago cf. https://youtu.be/T03oVBs4OZc ). In the comments section, I read, "The purpose of this is not to sell bananas for higher price, but to make the customers feel good about buying them". This is very good. This is what economic activity is all about, I'd say.

It's not the taste of the banana that's important to make the customer feel good. The thing is that the seller creates a nice groove. And if that groove continues until the banana is eaten, I think it will be recognized as part of the "deliciousness" of the banana.

Even when I feel that my work is not the best, it would be nice to have an exciting groove to show it to others anyway.

I left the exhibition without buying anything, but for 700 yen, I thought it was a pretty good exhibition.
